1. First thing to do is to load your image, and then turn or the RULERS by pressing CTRL+R or by going to VIEW>SHOW RULERS in the menu. IMAGE LOADING...
2. Press CTRL+D just to make sure you don't have any current selections. Now, go to the SELECT>COLOR RANGE menu and select the single color background that your image is on. The "Fuzziness" setting should be set to 0. IMAGE LOADING...
3. Invert your selection by hitting CTRL+SHIFT+I (or use the SELECT>INVERSE menu). Note: you could skip this step if you select the "invert" checkbox in the color range settings. IMAGE LOADING...
4. Now you make four guides (the blue lines)...the guides should automatically snap to to the selection as you drag them (if not, use the VIEW>SNAP TO GUIDES menu). If you've never used the ruler to make guides, I guess I'll explain: To make a horizontal guide, you left click on the top ruler and drag downwards. You should see a horizontal line that you can drag up and down...move it until it snaps to the edge of the selection. Same thing for a vertical guide, but you click and drag from the left ruler. Make four guides for the top, bottom, left and right. It should look something like this: IMAGE LOADING...
5. Use the square marquee IMAGE LOADING... to make a selection around your image. The selection marque will automatically snap to the guides. Everything inside the selection is what we want, and everything outside can now be cropped out. IMAGE LOADING...
6. And lastly, go to the IMAGE>CROP menu and crop it.

The original dimensions of this document was 200x100, but after cropping, it's been reduced to 169x65. That's a savings of 9015 pixels! =)
